What It's Like to Get Sized for a Chastity Cage in Person

By: KINK3D Event Team

One of the most notorious aspects of chastity is finding a device that fits your body just right. Human anatomy comes in a huge range of shapes and sizes — not to mention all the other practical considerations that people have, like body modifications, medical issues, job requirements, hobbies, and more. For chastity enthusiasts, your cage goes where you go. That means it has to fit into all the unique circumstances of your life!

From the first days of KINK3D, we've had a maniacal focus on sizing. Originally, that meant double-digit message threads on Reddit. Then we switched to email, where we've invested heavily in training our customer service team to become masters of their craft — analyzing dick pics with the meticulous care of a radiologist and the tenacity of the CSI team solving a particularly elusive case.

But nothing beats trying on cages for real. That's why we decided the next step was to break new ground and become the first cage brand to create a whole operation devoted to in-person chastity sizing. To do this, we've partnered with retail stores in major cities around the world, while traveling back and forth to a rapidly expanding lineup of special events.

We’ve sized people at places ranging from major international festivals like the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco and Darklands in Belgium, to regional fetish celebrations like MAL in Washington, DC, and Kink Down South in Atlanta, to dozens of dedicated sizing days at partner stores and dungeon spaces throughout the United States and Europe.

Combining all those events, we’ve sized literally thousands of people. That means our team has developed a whole lot of unique expertise.

We love using this expertise to help you out! But we also know that some people are intimidated by the idea of a stranger getting so intimate with their privates. So in this post, we’ve decided to demystify what it’s like to get sized.

Expectations

Having the right expectations for chastity sizing can go a long way.

We’re here to provide a professional, friendly, genuinely helpful experience. We take our jobs seriously and want you to walk away feeling glad that you came by.

First off, you should know that our goal at events is not to sell you a device. Our goal is to give you the most accurate information we can about what size will work best for you. Whether you’re saving up for a cage, getting the info that your partner will need to buy you a present later, or just curious, we don’t mind if you stop by without planning to buy. We’ll write down the size we come up with in case you want to use that information later.

Of course, we do love it when people walk away kitted out in our cages! But our company philosophy is the opposite of a hard sell: we want people to buy our products if — and only if — there’s a high likelihood they will be happy with their purchase. This means in the (rare) case when we can’t figure out a size that seems likely to work well for your anatomy, we’ll tell you exactly that.

It’s worth noting that even with in-person sizing, sometimes customers do swap to a different size later, after getting some experience wearing their device. As much as we'd love to, we can't guarantee a 100% hit rate. But we always want people to come away feeling that they made the best decision possible with the information that was available at the time.

We are very aware that sizing often takes place in a sexually-charged environment. If you’re into chastity and trying on a cage for the first time, putting on one of our devices may even be a fantasy come true. But chastity sizing is very different from fetish play, and we want people to come in with that understanding in mind. We pay attention to the energy of each customer and may tune our vibe accordingly, but for the most part we aim to keep the interactions professional. When we're fitting you for a cage, we're here to provide a useful educational service, not to get you off.

We might size you in a dungeon, but we're not pro doms ⛓️

Lastly, we approach our jobs with a solid dose of realism. Chastity sizing is often about balancing security and comfort. At the end of the day, your device needs to be comfortable enough for you to wear it. You might fantasize about having the tightest, most secure device in the world, but if the cage is so uncomfortable that you can’t wear it, it will end up as a very expensive decoration for your desk. So we will always try to be honest with you about the tradeoffs of different sizes you try on.

Preparation

If you’re new to chastity, it’s okay to be nervous before getting sized. Remember, you’re always in control and can choose to take a break or walk away at any point.

We’re happy to answer any questions you have before the sizing process starts. If you just want to check out the products and learn more about them, that’s fine too! You can also email us before coming in if you have questions you’d like to ask more anonymously.

As far as physically getting ready:

  • Everyone appreciates good hygiene, and that applies even more when dealing with intimate areas. If you can, wash beforehand (we know this isn’t always possible at fetish events).
  • While it’s not strictly necessary to trim your pubic hair, it’s helpful for minimizing the chance of hairs getting caught in the device. In other words, it's a good idea for your sake even more than ours.
  • If possible, wear clothes that you can pull all the way down away from your crotch. Sizing doesn’t work as well if your package is poking out through a fly.
  • Please refrain from messy activities before sizing (for example, sex or ABDL play).
  • Lastly, be mindful not to take ED medication before sizing. You won’t be able to try on cages if you have an erection that won’t subside!

Trying on cages

To get started, we’ll ask you to drop your pants. We can see the look of surprise on some people’s faces when we come right out and say this! But it’s the best (and really only) way for us to help. Just remember: When in Rome.

It’s worth pointing out here, people who come by to get sized are gay, straight, and everything in between. We have trans customers, older customers, college-age customers (legal adults only at sizing events please!), and overall a huge diversity. It doesn’t matter who you are. Just like getting naked for a doctor, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. We’ve seen it all before.

Once your pants are down, we’ll hand you a base ring to put on. Base rings are the foundation for ball-trap style chastity devices (this category includes our products as well as models such as the Holy Trainer, CB-6000, Cherry Keeper, and more). The base ring is worn like a cock ring around the whole package (penis and testicles).

For people who are new to chastity or having trouble getting on the ring, we suggest starting with the testicles first, then pulling the penis through last. Ball – Ball – Penis. For the balls, it will usually take a combination of pulling and pushing. Sometimes people can struggle with this step, so don’t feel bad if that happens to you. Most people get the hang of it, and it will quickly become second nature once you get a device and start to practice regularly.

Our base rings come in eight sizes, from #0 to #7. The most popular size is #3 (which has a diameter of 1-⅞” or 47.6mm). For sizing, we start most people in a #3, but may suggest a different size after taking a look at your anatomy. This is just a starting point, and we may go up or down later.

After the initial ring is on, we’ll hand you a cage. Sometimes we’ll ask if you prefer the look of our Cobra or Viper line; other times we’ll suggest one over the other given our prediction of your needs.

Just by looking at a penis, we can usually make a pretty good guess at what size you’ll need. Once the cage is on, we’ll lock the pieces together with the metal lock. This can be a bit tricky, as the two pieces need to be firmly connected for the lock to insert properly. Much like getting your balls through the base ring, this step also becomes much easier with practice.

With the whole device assembled, we'll begin to discuss the overall fit with you. We may point out the visual cues we’re looking for when checking for a good fit.

In general, we’re looking for a fit that’s snug, but not uncomfortably tight. Some people say it feels cozy (in a good way), while other people say they can barely feel it at all. From our perspective, these are both good ways for a chastity cage to feel!

For the cage:

  • Your flaccid penis should fill the cage without a lot of extra room, especially in terms of the length. The head of your penis should rest near the tip of the cage. Some gentle compression of the penis is normal and can even be ideal.
  • The shaft of your penis should be fully or almost-fully covered by the cage. If a large portion of your penis isn’t covered, this means the cage you tried on may be too short.
  • If you’re bulging through the bars when flaccid, we may suggest a longer and/or wider cage to give you more room, as the bulging will likely be exacerbated by erections.
  • We often think of caging sizing in terms of volume – meaning length X width. We can play with your ideal cage size by changing the length, the width, or both. We have 20 cage sizes to choose from in Cobra and 20 more in Viper, meaning there are many options. For each person, we can usually find a size that will work very well.

For the ring:

  • We usually want to go as snug as possible while still being comfortable. If the ring is too tight, you may get an aching feeling and/or rubbing under the scrotum.
  • The ring should stay in place on its own, and not slide down too easily. Sometimes (with your permission) we’ll give the ring a little tug to see how well it’s staying in place.
  • If your testicles are experiencing pain or pinching, that’s a sign that the ring diameter is too small and/or the gap is too tight.

Now that you’ve been locked in your first cage, we’ll make suggestions for options to try next. We might hand you a bigger or smaller ring, swap to a different ring style to optimize the ball gap, or hand you a different cage size.

Once you’ve got a combination that feels promising, we might suggest for you to pull up your pants, take some steps, do some squats, and notice how the device feels as you’re moving around. We want the cage to be comfortable for daily wear, meaning it should be able to handle all sorts of movement.

During this whole process, you might get aroused. It’s not uncommon for people to get turned on by the idea of being locked and/or by the physical sensations of the sizing process. We definitely understand, and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about! We will try to help you get your mind off the sexiness. Just follow our lead as we steer the conversation to more boring topics like work or school, or we give you permission to doomscroll until you calm back down :)

For most people, the process takes about 10-15 minutes. But if you take longer, don’t worry, we’re happy to give you the time you need to try on different options, so you walk away feeling as confident as possible.

Throughout the process, we’ll also give tips for putting the cage on and wearing it. For example, we provide Q-tips for nudging your penis all the way into the cage, and lotion for helping you slip in more easily.

We’ll also be doing a lot of cleaning along the way. We sterilize each piece after someone tries it on.

By the end of the process, most people will have learned a lot about our cages, and it's not uncommon for people to ask if they really have to take the device off or can keep it on and wear it straight out with them!
